Here’s a lesson on how to play Lay Down Sally by Eric Clapton on bass: (bass tabs are here)

I use this song in my lesson on the root and 5th pattern as an example of a bass line that uses the root and 5th. The bassist is playing the root and 5th’s on top of the chords being played:
- A root and E 5th,
- D root and A 5th,
- E root and B 5th.
The bass line helps create that classic country, “honky tonk” feel.
