Hammer On / Pull Off Bass Lick Lesson

Hammer On / Pull Off Bass Lick Lesson – > Here’s a really great bass lick that you can use in many playing situations. It fits well when needing to play fills. It’s also one that I’ve used to solo – play the same lick over several measures. It’s a very simple and easy to learn lick. But it sounds much more complicated and will impress people with your incredibly complicated bass guitar skills 😁!

The video below shows the lick being played in F# minor. However you can easily adjust positions and play this in many keys. I actually use this lick to play a short bass solo in G minor (on one of our original songs) by simply moving everything up one fret.

Learning this lick will also give you some great practice with moving quickly from one end of the fretboard to the other – going from the low F# on the 2nd fret, to quickly moving to the high F# on the 11th fret. I use it sometimes as an exercise to help with my fluidity of movement across the fingerboard. It’s also a great exercise that helps with hammer-ons, pull-offs, and using your hands to create percussive and muted sounds.

The instructor in this lesson video below is none other than the awesome Freekbass. One thing I like about Freekbass is his ability to use his bass to mimic other instruments and parts to the song. With this lick as he explains, he is mimicking the sound of a horn section.
